About:
In partnership with Youth in Focus, the Seattle Japanese Garden is pleased to host our second youth photography workshops in the garden. Young photographers (from grades 8 through 12), come and learn about the Japanese stroll garden, tea ceremony, and create inspiring images for our community.
With the instructor, Lindsey Miller from Youth in Focus, you will expand your knowledge of DSLR cameras, composition, and storytelling through taking photographs in the garden.
At the end of the workshop, you will submit one picture to be printed and framed. Your framed print will be showcased at our community room at the Seattle Japanese Garden.
Instructor:
Lindsey Miller from Youth in Focus
Lindsey resides in Redmond, Washington, and loves being creatively connected to her community. Her first photographic experience was for a 6th-grade science fair project. Lindsey built a pinhole camera to create images on paper through a tiny hole of light. Unfortunately, the photos disappeared before the teacher and class could see them. This project sparked her curiosity about the relationship between science and art. Lindsey went on to take darkroom classes in high school, learning the chemistry behind photography - how to make those images on paper permanent. Later, she received a Bachelor of Fine Art, after studying the engineering of cameras and conquering Adobe software. Then Lindsey received her Master's from the School of Visual Arts, diving deep into the psychology of color, art, and digital storytelling. After decades of practicing art and science, she now dedicates her after-work hours to teaching others to do the same; explore an art project, and learn something scientific.
