Tea Ceremony: Introduction to Chanoyu

Japanese tea ceremony is an experience imbued with calm, precision, and refined beauty. Seattle Japanese Garden's Shoseian is one of the only tea houses in North America where guests can receive tea in a traditional roji garden setting.

Join us for a 40-minute tea presentation, "Introduction to Chanoyu", where you'll have a chance to sit in a tatami-mat lined tea room, observe the restrained ritual movements of tea preparation, and taste the carefully prepared tea as well as an accompanying sweet treat.

This event will be hosted by Chaboshu, a men's tea group which was established in Seattle to promote public awareness about Japanese tea ceremonial practices for men. The group consists of members from different Chado schools.

Tickets are $10 for Adults, and $7 for Youth. There are three start times: 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. We can accommodate up to 15 guests for each session. Please note that we request participants to avoid bare feet, jeans, rings, and personal fragrances.

Reservations are required and taken by phone during open business hours. Please call the ticket booth at (206) 684-4725.

(If reserving for a party of 10 or larger, please consider booking a private event this day at an earlier time).
